Water tanks for the Albert Schweitzer school in Kisumu/Kenya,

The latest project of Water for Life is the financing of four water tanks (10,000 liters each) for the Albert Schweitzer school in Kenya (donation in the amount of
CHF 6’ 000.--). The school was opened on 4th January 2016 thanks to a start-up financing from the Albert Schweitzer hospital in Lambaréné/Gabon which we are also supporting. With the financial support we enable AIDS orphans education and with it a way out of poverty. The area around Kisumu has been strongly affected by AIDS: about one third of the population is HIV positive. Many parents die by reason of AIDS, leaving children behind who are then distributed within the family to grandparents or other relatives. After the death of their parents, the necessary tuition is often missing.
The school accommodates now 160 orphans and half-orphans, aged from four to eight years. The children receive age appropriate Kenyan lessons and two daily meals.
For the water supply in the school, rainwater is collected on the roofs and stored in large 10’000 liter tanks. The present three tanks overflow during the rainy season. Within the dry season, they are not sufficient.
The roofs of the planned additional classrooms and the hall will be able to collect more rainwater. This water will be stored in another four tanks. So, we will increase the total capacity to 70’000 liters.
